Erving Magic Johnson

Erving "Magic" Johnson Jr. was born August 14 1959 in Lansing Michigan. Magic used to love basketball when he was a kid. He idolized players like Earl Monroe and Marques Haynes. He would be always working on his game. Magic got the nickname "Magic" when he was a sophomore playing for Lansing  Everett High School and recorded a triple-double of 36 points, 18 rebounds,16 assist. 





Although Johnson was recruited by several top-ranked colleges such as Indiana and UCLA, he decided to play close to home.The two colleges it came down to was University of Michigan and Michigan State University. He decided to attend Michigan State University because the coach Jue Heathcote said he can run point. 


Then Magic played at Michigan State from 1977-1979. Then got drafted with the first pick in the 1979 NBA Draft. He got draft by the Los Angles Lakers. Magic said when he got drafted was the most amazing thing is playing alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabber. Johnson averaged 18.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game for the season, was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Team, and was named an NBA All-Star Game starter. 


Later on in his Career he was HIV positive which means he has HIV. So one day he made an announcement that he had HIV. Everyone around the nation was shocked. Players refused to play with him because they were scared they might get HIV also.

Very inspirational. Magic Johnson went through so much, but in the end he still changed the face of basketball as we know it.
